A friend of mine told me to use alcohol and a cotton ball but I want to know if there are any other ways because I don’t want to ruin it. I have one of those straighteners that you can use if your hair is dry or damp. Thanks.

well, I think if you used just a damp rag. That would be fine.
*make sure the straightener isn’t hot at all
*spray some hairspray onto a soft cloth/rag and wipe it over the straightener
*use a damp cloth/rag to wipe it again
